"The Internet Gaming Prohibition Act would prohibit most forms of Internet-based gambling, including professional, amateur and school-level sports betting, as well as casino-style gaming. Businesses violating the proposed law would be find for the amount of wagers they take in, or $20,000, whichever is greater. Violators also would be subject to up to four years in jail.

Individual bettors are not targeted by S. 692, although they might be subject to the laws of their respective states.

The act has been approved by the Senate Subcommittee on Technology, Terrorism and Government Information, and is currently before the full Senate Judiciary Committee."
