Toshiba Continues to Provide the Ultimate in Mobile Performance and Flexibility With the Addition of New Intel Pentium II Processor to Its Corporate Tecra 8000 Series

With the addition of the new Intel(R) 400MHz Mobile Pentium(R) II processor and the continued use of a stable hardware platform, the Tecra(R) 8000's total configuration options have increased to 12,600

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 1999-- Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. (TAIS), Computer Systems Division (CSD), the country's leading manufacturer of portable computers, continues to provide corporate customers with versatility, manageability and quality with new feature options for its Tecra 8000 series.

Winner of the coveted PC Magazine Award for Technical Excellence, the Tecra 8000 offers the best in high-performance mobile computing with Intel's new 400MHz Mobile Pentium II processor and unprecedented configuration flexibility in a single motherboard, single chassis design.

''Our unique Tecra design allows us to continually introduce the latest technologies while still protecting the corporate customer's long-term computing investment,'' said Jeffrey Friederichs, vice president of marketing, Toshiba CSD. ''With the Tecra 8000's single motherboard design, our corporate customers can get the fastest performance available without spending additional time and money qualifying new systems.''

Tecra 8000 Series' Innovative Platform Provides Best Corporate

Computing Experience

Toshiba's Tecra 8000 offers the ultimate in performance and flexibility through an innovative, stable hardware platform that now provides 12,600 possible configuration options -- the most available in one platform. With the addition of Intel's new 400MHz Mobile Pentium II processor, Toshiba continues to extend the product lifecycle of the industry's most versatile notebook for corporate customers looking to protect their investment. The Tecra's stable platform enables seamless integration of Intel's fastest mobile processor and the addition of the industry's largest 10.0 and 14.1 billion byte hard drive, without the need to re-qualify the software image. Additionally, customers benefit from reduced total cost of ownership (TCO) because the stable platform allows for easy transitions to new technology, as well as lower parts inventory because new models use the same motherboard and chassis.

Investment protection is provided by the Tecra 8000 series through its compatibility with Toshiba's existing docking station, port replicators and SelectBay components, which have supported the Tecra series since December 1995. Toshiba continues to provide customers with the industry's most consistent docking strategy, providing them with long-term peripheral compatibility.
