Bandwidth Wars: Chip makers put to the G.Lite test

Atlanta- Ten chip makers last week each claimed success in the
first-ever interoperability test for the consumer-oriented ADSL
(asymmetric digital subscriber line) technology, but some vendors'
products proved more robust than others in the heated contest.

According to the test results disclosed at the Supercomm '99 show
here, Alcatel-the world's largest supplier of ADSL equipment and
chipsets-won the G.Lite interoperability race by a nose.
