In part I think they may be trying to squeeze GBLX. I can understand in part why QWST would go after US West but in the case of Frontier it seems rather redundant. QWST may be using this dual buyout to cloud the picture. If they walk away with US West they are happy. If they get both Okay, if they were to only get FRO I believe they would pull the offer.

In order to ensure the long term viability of the company it is necessary to expand in telecom. In the end there will only be a few titans. It would appear that QWST wants to be in the last group standing. That is great for the company and they must do that. However, I'm not sure how many investors want to sit around and see whatever is going to be in five years take form. It would appear that the forward growth is going to cool down quickly.

At this point, WCOM would seem to be the biggest winner.
QWST has dropped more than I thought it would. I'll look for a dead cat bounce then I'm out.
