You get through the boot selection, ntdetect, ntloader (the
black boot screen) and hang during the disk check phase
(blue screen), is that correct? That means you've successfully
initiated the NT kernel.
I HAVE seen disk problems which will make chkdisk hang
(or is it scandisk -- I never remember. Anyhow, the NT one).
I don't specifically have any notion why flashing bios
would cause a disk problem, but you're right, you should
have been certain of a current backup before doing it.
Not that that helps much after the fact.
Can you access the partition that won't boot from your backup?
If not, you probably do have a disk error of some kind. If
so, copy the registry hives so you can restore them in
case you need to rebuild NT. To make it simple, copy
winnt\system32\config (where most of the hives are) and
all of the user profiles (winnt\profiles) where the rest of
them are.
When was the last time you made an emergency repair disk?
If you have a reasonably current one, you can try to recover
with that. If you made one but don't have it due to
Mysterious Forces, you can make another by copying the
contents of Winnt\repair to a floppy (winnt\repair gets
the data for the ERP before it's written to the floppy).
However, that will only help if you have a registry or
a boot sector (or MBR) problem, and from the sound if
what's happened you don't.
Here's another question: Do you seem to get almost
through the "blue screen" boot phase then hang? If
so, there may be a difference in the hardware configuration
in the bios since you've flashed it. E.g., the
C drive may have a bad bios spec or something. Anyhow,
it's another thing to try - checking all the BIOS settings,
I mean. Especially the disk settings.
