To All: I received this EMail last Friday. I wanted to get permission before I posted it publicly. But I thought it may be of interest to some....I do not use the NYSE beta, but some may.

Regards,
LG

LG, I wanted to pass on some info that I uncovered on the NYSE Beta Index. Several people on Silicon Investor sites over the months have asked what it is and how it's constructed. The NYSE gave me the man's name who knew about such things and I just got off the phone with him. It was originally an index of 100 high beta stocks. The index is no longer supported and it actually comprises only 78 issues today (I suppose through mergers and such). It is calculated on a price-weighted basis, not a cap weighting. He mentioned that it's calculation and distribution should have been killed long ago but that no one knows how to turn the thing off. So, I'd recommend that anyone utilizing the NYSE Beta Index in their technical work be prepared for "lights out" at some point in the future. When? Who knows? Anyway, just a bit of info on a subject that I've seen arise from time to time.

Cordially,
Brad Reid
