Kemble,

What the Dell bears seem to miss is the customer loyalty that Dell establishes with its business customers through the "premier page" program.

From my readings, it sounds as if Dell has offloaded significant costs, time, processes, inefficiencies from its customers as part of its value added proposition.

Dell isn't just selling PCs, etc. to business customers. It's also providing significant value added processes that surround the the procurement, accounting, support, setup and maintenance of a corporation's network of PCs. ... and all at close to no extra cost to Dell. It's become the best, bar none at the outsourcing of this portion of its customers' business processes. ... so good that the competition don't look at Dell as an outsourcer but just as another box builder to compete with.

They just don't get it. ... and it may well be a very long time before they do. :-)

Ian.
