I am one of former SCH customers. I pulled out my account because of multiple problems with Schwab site: poor execution of trades, slow response, excessively high commission rates (The rates for option trades came to $9-$10 per contract!), poor site maintenance, etc. It would kick me out in the middle of placing an order. I am not surprised that Schwab has lost a customer base. Today's announcement may not be only related to lack of day traders (There are still plenty around) but also because of people switching their accounts out of Schwab to better sites.
