I believe Intel has its reasons for not going the K7(or Alpha)
route. Somehow, I have the feeling that K7 is in the same
league as Alpha, speed at all cost. But that may not be what
Intel want. Remembered that Intel deliberately leave out the
Alpha IP in its DEC deal ?


It is much simpler than that. DEC was the only place where the architects had the intestinal fortitude to add the extra clock cycle to the L1 access. Dirk brought that legacy with him to AMD. K7 is actually a quite conservative design and should be very manufacturable.
