I believe that technically Atlanta is "East Coast", but it is not what I have in mind...I dispute the assertion that Northern Virginia is declining, but I prefer the Maryland side, anyway. Charlottesville and Virginia Beach are both very nice, but Virginia Beach is not as good as the Delmarva beaches, and is too isolated, and Charlottesville has little besides UVA. Anyway, the urban wasteland business is terribly exaggerated, especially when you consider that much of the Southwest is just wasteland, period. God, I still remember the shock of my first trip to New Mexico, and the desolation of the landscape. I felt as if I had landed on a (partially colonized) moon. Anyway, the mainline is more representative than Camden, at least if one has means, and out Doylestown way is rural enough for most people. Elizabeth, Morristown, Upper Saddle River: there are plenty of places better than Jersey City in the NYC metro area. Heck, there are small fishing villages annexed to NYC, on the south shore of Long Island, like Jamaica, Queens. Did you ever see the Ed Burns flick "She's the One"? Don't limit your horizons...New England is very "low density", by the way, and better than getting stuck in Oregon (I say without a hint of prejudice<VBG>)... |
