Hi Mike

Re: GTE Worldwind

You said: I have no idea who the ISP is that takes GTE Worldwind onto the Internet backbone.

I did a tracert from Empire Net, Bend, OR to three different GTE sites and found that BBNplanet was upstream on 2 traces and Sprintlink served the other.

You said: GTE just contracted out their ISP service to some local no name company as far as I know.

The following were listed as ISPs in Clearwater who use GTE Internetworking: [v.90 ISDN (BBN / GTE Internetworking)]
USAServe
LA Bridge
Netzero
National Web Site Devlopment Ctr
Direct Internet
Net Genie
CEGI Services

I found it of note that 6 of these 7 ISPs were also contracting with GTE Internetworking in Portland, OR.

FWIW, a tracert to Netzero.com was a bogey, timed out repeatedly. As you might know, this is the "free" internet ISP. Seems that you get what you pay for, after all.

Best, Ry
