SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif., June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Seagate Software, a wholly owned subsidiary of Seagate Technology (NYSE: SEG - news), today unveiled a bold initiative that will generate a tremendous number of qualified leads for its channel partners by distributing millions of licenses of its award-winning business intelligence software -- free of charge -- to organizations worldwide. North American distributors and resellers will be able to capitalize on a tremendous new user base to increase their revenues through upgrades and additional sales. Technical support, training and consulting opportunities will also be readily available.
''While forward thinking companies are looking beyond the millennium and are focusing on new ways to manage their information, confusion about the many products being marketed as business intelligence solutions and the high cost of testing them is widespread. This comes at a time when business intelligence market revenues are predicted to grow dramatically from $1.2 billion in 1997 to $6.2 billion by the year 2002(a),'' said John Fraissinet, vice president of sales and marketing for the Americas at Seagate Software.
''We are taking this innovative step today because we want customers to experience for themselves the value of our products,'' continued Fraissinet. ''As a result, we are confident our software will be top of mind in the burgeoning business intelligence industry and that customers will come back to us for more. The potential for Seagate Software channel partners to benefit from our increased market share and the wide acceptance of our business intelligence solutions is enormous.''
Bold initiative highlights
Seagate Software is offering two products for free, either on CD or via the Web. The first product is a new, standalone desktop application for individual users called Seagate Analysis, which incorporates Seagate Software's award-winning ad hoc query, OLAP and reporting technologies. The second product is a 50-user license of the award-winning Seagate Info 7, a fourth generation proven product with more than one million users. This newly enhanced version of Seagate Info -- now easier than ever to install and use -- links Seagate Analysis users in a complete enterprise system for accessing, analyzing, reporting and sharing corporate information.
Channel partners applaud the initiative
''We are very excited about the opportunity to partner with Seagate Software on this initiative,'' said Jeannette Barsky, vice president, marketing for Merisel, Inc. ''This program is highly innovative and complements Merisel's strategic direction -- Merisel is committed to adding value to the products we sell. This initiative again proves the value that VARs provide and is sure to mean long-term growth and partnering opportunities with Seagate Software.''
''Seagate Software is making the first steps in the sales process easier,'' said Lorraine Castorina, vice president of North American sales at Software Spectrum. ''By distributing their leading business intelligence technology free of charge, no strings attached, they allow the customer to deploy an information infrastructure at no charge or risk. We then have the opportunity to sell additional licenses, consulting, maintenance and technical support contracts. We're looking forward to increased revenues as part of Seagate Software's bold initiative.''
''Seagate Software's strategy to introduce their business intelligence solutions to the masses is a winning situation for enterprise and mid-market customers,'' said William Kerrigan, senior vice president of North American sales for Corporate Software & Technology. ''By exposing a million plus new users to their products, Seagate Software is opening up the playing field. We look forward to the upsell and additional license and service opportunities as a result of this innovative approach.''
''In today's dynamic business environment, time is compressed, information is a prized competitive advantage and business decisions are made instantly,'' said Ron Marinella, partner and executive director, business technology solutions, BDO Seidman, LLP. ''We are excited about participating in the value-added opportunities generated by Seagate Software's forward-thinking initiative to bring business intelligence to the decision-maker's desktop.''
