well there are many .coms which have gone public because of a particular content they offer, or because they have some form of partalness (is that a word) and the ipo's have done tremendously well even without a proven business model, revenues, etc. the more established companies-- your yhoo's, aol's, cmgi's--- do have track records, proven business models, etc., and therefore do have some justification for their valuations. although smgi has a few .coms in its pipeline, it also has a lot of compnaies with a much broader range of business which will enhance its success. i think where we may be confused is on the definition of .com, if that helps.
