Ross Systems Introduces Thin Client Computing Option Optimizes Wide Area Network/Zero Administration Client
ATLANTA, June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Ross Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: ROSS), the leading provider of enterprise resource planning (ERP), advanced planning (APS) and customer management systems (CMS) to the process manufacturing market, today announced that it had introduced Thin Client Deployment (TCD) as part of its new architectural strategy RNA (Renaissance Network Architecture). This expands the deployment options to include n-tier deployment, three-tier deployment, and traditional client/server.
"RNA Thin Client provides organizations maximum flexibility to defining a deployment strategy that best fits the topology of their organization," said Pat Tinley, President and COO of Ross Systems. "With Thin Client as a deployment option, our worldwide customer base can now optimize performance over a wide area network or take advantage of the vast array of Internet, intranet and extranet opportunities available in the world of e-business. RNA Thin Client will provide significant cost savings for our customers and maximize network performance."
TCD allows the presentation layer of the Renaissance family of integrated ERP, APS and CMS applications to run in a Windows environment. This leaves the other functional layers of the application on the server, or group of servers. The user interface is a Windows interface that provides a desktop solution with zero administration required to provide software upgrades. Business rules are maintained in central libraries, which also ease software maintenance and improves security.
"The RNA Thin Client prevents issues common with many client/server applications available on the market today," said Tinley. "The Renaissance family of applications have been engineered from day one to deploy a multi- tier deployment option. We avoid issues of 'fat clients' that require significant systems administration to maintain the desktop. Furthermore, Thin Client speeds performance over the network."
TCD -- Part of Renaissance Network Architecture
Thin Client Deployment is a part of the overall distributed architecture strategy available in the Ross Systems Renaissance Network Architecture (RNA). Newly introduced, this architecture is open and component-based providing maximum flexibility and versatility.
Among the additional deployment options in RNA are:
* N-tiered deployment -- tiers can include the client (user interface),
business process layer and data access layer. N-tiered deployment
offers lower cost, higher reliability and more flexibility in the
database, application platforms and operating systems.
* Web deployment -- RNA supports full web deployment of the Renaissance
application portfolio including e-business applications.
* Global deployment -- Renaissance, developed within the RNA framework,
operates in 16 languages, supports country-specific statutes in 24
countries providing global coverage.
* Multi-entity deployment -- RNA supports the requirements of multi- entity organizations deploying portions or all of the integrated
applications on a site basis and rolling up data for centralized
reporting.
* Performance, Tuning and Upgrade Options -- RNA supports the complete
life cycle management of the Renaissance application portfolio.
"Taking advantage of today's extended enterprise means having flexible deployment choices from your applications partner," said Tinley. "The addition of RNA Thin Client means our customers now have the maximum level of deployment options."
