once many years back, i was called to court on a matter. the other guy's attorney and i began a conversation in the hallway. she told me, "my client was so angry he said he wanted to tear you limb from limb". within mere minutes, her client joined us. i knew him, and greeted him. then, in front of his attorney i said, "say, jim, your lawyer says you would like to tear me limb from limb?". a puzzled look came over his face, and he shook his head in a negative, side-to-side way, saying in essence, no way. suddenly, his attorney pipes up, "what? that is OUTRAGEOUS! i did NOT say that! you're making that up!".
