<Pump and Dump>
Eric, an excellent, spot-on summary.
I might add one other point: "Pump and Dump" (stock manipulation) on the internet (or elsewhere) is ILLEGAL. And, the SEC is very aggressively monitoring these boards for this type of SCAM activity. To engage in it, not only do you need to be not very smart, dishonest, and foolish... you need to be willing to go to jail. Which, would be the appropriate treatment for those involved in pushing such schemes.
The general public assumes, through reading articles in the newspaper, that these boards are "all about" that type of activity. Which is not really true at all! What you have here, for example is a thread populated by people working earnestly to make profits honestly by exchanging information about good trading practices. "Trading well" is a perfectly legal activity, it drives a good percentage of the U.S. Economy!
And that is why this type of post may tend to be blasted off the thread in a hail of cyber-bullets... it's the worst form of pollution.
Good trading, -Steve |
