re: msft trial

And of course after a few appeals the trial itself will fade into the oblivion because it is moving in real time vs. internet time. Huge monster alliances have been formed while this evil empire trial has been going on... I am one that agrees msft behaved unethically especially with regard to the boxmakers but at this point who cares? (sorry to be so blunt) When we have issues about whether broadband access has to be restricted to @home users etc.

On an important note with regards to msft however, their venture capital arm (if they have one) needs work. I look at Vulcan as an example of what msft ventures should aspire to be. Msft doesn't seem to know how to invest their money, or they don't get the internet issues etc, I don't know. THeir healtheon investment was lame - 300mm in Healtheon post IPO, come on! They could have gone in 6 mos ago and had most of the company. Msft really needs to get their act together with regards to their ventures, as we have seen with Amazon this is really important and msft isn't focussing on it.

Cisco fwiw has a differing strategy, they invest in companies to acquire but since msft doesn't do many acquisitions they should have a bunch of hot portfolio companies and all they have is Webtv.
