Jim thanks for the kind words , IBM updates JAVA for a "open" LINUX

A faster JAVA should bring application programs to LINUX:
----
" Located at www.alphaworks.com/tech/linuxjvm , the
Virtual Machine is available for free download.

The JVM is based on the same speedy model that IBM
earlier claimed was the fastest available under
Microsoft's Windows operating system.

Both Windows and Linux run on Intel hardware. The
availability of a JVM for Linux was predicted by IBM
officials as likely to increase the use of the open
source operating system for Java development.

The early release Virtual Machine for Linux is based
version of the Java Development Kit,
release 1.1.6. After collecting feedback from
developers, IBM plans to release an updated version
of the VM for Linux based on JDK 1.2, now popularly
known as Java 2.

No release date was announced at yesterday's briefing at the Hotel Monaco in San Francisco. "
