I spent some more time checking the boards and my records. A@P posted to short NITE on January 4. He continued to uphold that position for a few days. Around January 8, NITE had a very sharp run-up, and in the afternoon people who were panicking were told that he had advised that NITE be covered earlier in the day, by post #reply-7168658 . That post was pretty cryptic, and I never looked at it, since the title line suggested shorting another stock, but in the body of the message it said cover almost everything.
I stupidly waited to cover NITE until January 11, losing a good chunk of money. I posted to A@P, and he responded: #reply-7215677 , indicating in his response that he had sent out PM's.
Now, in all fairness, no one is perfect, and even the best investment gurus sometimes make mistakes. A@P was even suffering from the flu on January 8, which might have caused him not to be explicit enough in posting to cover NITE. He also seems to have about 50 open positions at any one time, and it must be hard to juggle his own account, and post advice for others to follow. I found him to be very pleasant and polite, and it's simply unfortunate that I was stupid enough to blindly follow his advice without doing due diligence, and that I was unlucky enough to get into one of his few bad selections.
Luckily, I made back the money through shorting ZONA and being long TGLO. |
