Oracle's Global E-Business Solution Wins Strategic Q4 Deals
PR Newswire - June 15, 1999 17:18

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- As the world's leading provider of e-business solutions for Internet commerce and web-based corporate applications, Oracle Corp. today announced key fourth quarter deals with world-class companies around the globe. Delivering the most complete e-business solution available, including an Internet-enabled platform and applications, plus a full spectrum of consulting and support services, Oracle is uniquely positioned to provide customers with the most direct route to expanding markets, improving enterprise-wide efficiencies, and deploying state-of-the-art customer relationship management applications.

Effective customer relationship management (CRM) is the cornerstone of any successful e-business. Oracle's 100% Internet-enabled CRM solution offers a broad and comprehensive suite of 35 modules, extending from sales and marketing to customer service. In addition, Oracle's CRM applications enable companies to manage all three customer-centric interaction channels -- the web, direct sales, and call centers. Online grocery store HomeGrocer.com Inc. is among those in Q4 joining the long list of successful companies already deploying Oracle's CRM solutions, including American Electric Power, American Management Association, Drug Emporium Inc., and Principal Financial Group. These companies are leveraging Oracle's integrated CRM solution to expand into new markets, accelerate revenue growth and enhance profitability.

With the explosion in Internet commerce, today's web sites demand a reliable technology infrastructure that can keep pace with the legions of consumers now buying products and services online. Providing uncompromised availability, plus capacity and durability, the Oracle(R) platform is already used by most of the world's top web sites. Among the web-based companies signing major fourth quarter deals with Oracle are DBT Online Inc., NetZero, and ShopNow.com Inc.

NetZero provides free Internet access and email to consumers nationwide, while offering advertisers the most sophisticated targeting capabilities available today. The company chose the Oracle platform for its web site, as well as Internet-enabled Oracle Financials for its corporate accounting. "Selecting the platform infrastructure for NetZero was among the most crucial decisions we made for our company and for our customers," said Mark R. Goldston, chairman and CEO of NetZero, Inc. "We receive a high volume of traffic to our site and to our Internet service, so we needed a platform that is 100% reliable, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We chose Oracle because no one else offered reliability on that scale. And that's important, since our customers depend on us."

In addition to the world's leading web sites, corporations worldwide are turning to Oracle to provide a solid, reliable, and scalable infrastructure for their custom-built web-based business applications. Furthermore, many are selecting Oracle because it offers a comprehensive and enterprise-wide e-business solution, which comprises the Oracle platform and Internet-enabled Oracle Applications for CRM, finance, manufacturing, HR, and supply chain.

Owens & Minor, Inc., a Fortune 500 company headquartered in Richmond, VA, is the nation's largest distributor of national name-brand medical/surgical supplies. Delivering products to 4,000 customers in 38 distribution centers around the country, Owens & Minor signed a major deal with Oracle in Q4. The company is building a variety of web-based applications on the Oracle platform that will enable the company's customers and suppliers to research product information, place orders and check order status. "The Internet-readiness and flexibility of Oracle's platform make it the ideal environment for developing self-service applications for the web," said Lee Marston, CIO at Owens & Minor. "As a large and dispersed organization with customers and suppliers all over the US, we also required a bullet-proof platform that could withstand heavy use. We believe Oracle's platform can meet our demands."

Royal Oak, Michigan-based William Beaumont Hospital, one of the nation's premier health systems, also chose Oracle's Internet-enabled solution in Q4. "When you couple the technology Oracle offers with its knowledge and focus on the health care industry, you have the complete solution that we were looking for," said Paul S. Peabody, vice president and CIO at Beaumont.

Other companies in the U.S. and Canada signing major deals with Oracle in the fourth quarter include Avis Rent-A-Car, Bechtel Corp., Compaq Computer Corp., ConAgra, Ford Motor Company, General Electric Capital Services, General Electric Power Systems, Harley-Davidson Inc., Human Resources Development Canada, Land O' Lakes Inc., Merrill Lynch, Nike Inc., Owens & Minor Inc., PepsiCo, Pratt & Whitney, Sprint, Staples Inc., and the U.S. Postal Service.

Oracle's presence in businesses outside the U.S. and Canada expanded significantly in Q4.
