News from the show....I have not contributed in quite some time but thought I would report news from Cable 99. - There is some speculation that the JV deal may not get done. This comes from an analyst pretty up to speed on TV Guide and would be the result of the hair on SRCM from its checkered past. This is not a prediction, but a no-deal would not be a huge surprise. It is awful suspicious that the deal did not close before THE biggest cable event. - Upon inquiry to a mid-level manager of TV Guide on the role of IC in TV Guide Interactive, here is the response I got. Mgr: "We are not planning to use SRCM's software or internet access product. That will not be part of the product." Me: Why are you doing the deal with SRCM? Mgr: "They have some interesting technology and local content." Me: Oh, you mean like that local weather you have added to TV Guide Interactive? Mgr: "No, that is our own addition." Me: Then why do you need SRCM? Mgr:"I am not sure." - In SRCM's defense, they certainly have gotten rid of most of the slime, only a few more to go.
