two best responses I have heard to telephone solicitations of this type:

1.) ask if they are aware that is illegal to solicit the sale of securities without first having sent the prospectus... then as follow up that you work in an office that has NASD employees who perhaps you should forward on his phone number and company name to..

2.) you have just recently lost your job and/or gone bankrupt.

3.) (optional) Just got out-- or about to go-- to prison for a violent crime.
