He has been rumoured as the next CEO all day long - on several boards. Frankly it is nonsense to call it a "thankless job". It must be one of the plums. Not only is most of the hard work with the DEC/Tandem integration over, but the new man will become filthy rich in no time at all. Options granted at these levels will double in value within six months. House is not up to the job, in my opinion, and would be fortunate to be offered a 1st lieutenant role. I don't buy the explanation for his leaving Nortel. Either he has got something lined up or he is being pushed. I would have thought if he had something lined up he would have announced it.
