I guess we can chalk up our differences in perception to environmental influences then. I can understand how someone who was raised in the midst of the city can have a much different attitude towards it than myself. For me, the city is to live and work in, but play occurs outside the beltway, in the rough. I want both, Im difficult I suppose. <g>
As to the service, Im not sure if that might not just be inexcusable. No matter what, service is service. But that might be the Yank sticking his head out. Im not sure if Southerners and Westerners have the same attitude about it that Easterners do. Ive noticed that people in Houston tend to tip horribly, for example. Ive discussed it with co-workers in idle conversation, and they seem shocked at my tipping habits. I always, *always* leave 25%, unless the server just plain sucked. And for alcohol, I always tip $1 per drink, and then double my bill at the end of the night. Which is quite expensive, which is why I dont drink that much anymore. <g> Ive been out to dinner with friends, who will try and leave $2 for a tip, on a bill of $60-100. I about drop over when I see that.
