<The next time a banner starts blinkin' at me, I'll let you know where I found it. Thankfully, it's not every page. >
Interestingly, I did not notice a blinking banner until now, 3 days later, even though I've read hundreds of posts since then. (Again, thankfully.) I copied the link to post here, and then began navigating to this thread. Then I thought, "to make sure I'm not hallucinating, I'll check that I'm pointing folks to the correct link." So I returned to the page with the offending banner and surprise, it had been replaced by something less offensive. So I navigated away and then back to the post a third time, and again, the banner changed.
So then I went to this thread and noticed the banner atop post 0, left this thread and returned, and the banner atop post 0 changed.
So then I went to a different website (Yahoo Finance) to replicate this phenomenon. Sure enough, it takes place there as well.
So apparently this is standard banner advertising practice on web sites.
The particular page on which I saw the blinking banner follows:

If your experience mirrors mine, you will see a blinking banner advertising a Hot Stock Tip on your first visit to that page, and then different banners when you return to that page. If you don't get that blinking banner on your first visit to that page, it would suggest that these banners are appearing randomly or something.
Can anyone shed more light on this subject? If not, I will post this to the DCLK thread as well. |
