Hi wily,

"I was talking to some of your compatriots in Canada today. Lots of good tech help
up there (ATI)."

Couldn't agree more. ATI has some of the best tech support I've ever used. One of the worst has got to be Iomega...but that's another story altogether. <g>

"I found out that you can remove a display adapter using the Device Manager and
even though it no longer appears there, Windows in some of its thoughts still sees it.
If you boot in safe mode and go to Device Manager it's still there."

Yep. I'm not so sure that it's a bug though. However, it can get very messy when you're converting an older system or switching some troublesome hardware. After deleting the hard drive controllers in standard mode, I went to safe mode and found 14 controllers listed there. It's amazing the stuff that Safe mode brings up.

That said, just because Safe Mode lists the device there, doesn't mean the driver is being loaded for it in standard mode. One of the big problems I've found however, is that it's completely random. Sometimes certain techniques work, other times, it has zero effect.

That's what bothers so many technicians...including myself.
