In todays Investors Business Daily. Gabelli Asset Management hires Barbara Marcin for new fund. She will manage a new mid to large-cap fund. Since 1993 Marcin headed up value investing at Citibank GLOBAL asset management. Her biggest mistake is being early in her investments. Sometimes I get excited because a stock looks cheap she said. AT&T IS A CASE IN POINT. She began buying at 26 a share almost 2 and a half years
ago. Nobody wanted AT&T at that price. Marcin struck witt AT&T her largest holdings at Citibank. Its tough to find any value stocks now, But she has found 1 sleeper, its name is 3 COM she says. Marcin value's 3 com's new products division at eight times sales. The unit is growing 50% a year. She values the networking products segments, growing 15% a year at three times sales. The client access business (one time sales) mainly modems and adapters is
contracting, Marcin says but thats allright because it's a cash cow that finances growth in other segments. She's often early but she seldom misses. Thats the article, but you have to remember Marcin and Abby Cohen CONTROLS billions of dollars to invest. The know 3 com is a steal. They both must have a small amount of 3 com and they have their finger on the trigger for any excuse to load up on 3 com. Thats how it starts. JDS 3 COM
