Hi Eric P; About that pump and dump, and other illegal activities...

Was it last week's Barron's had the article about the people who bought LCOS or options when they found out that IBM was buying them at a premium? Seems like the SEC took several million dollars out of the hides of the likes of plumbers, secretaries and computer operators... People who bought on a tip, but without the knowledge that the tip was based on inside information kept their profits, but those who gave them the tip had to pay back the SEC for their tipee's profits. (Ouch!) Plus penalties...

Regarding possible pump and dump on the SI, my suspicion is that it happens. I noticed the following three items from Menion, (who seems to be somewhat similar in writing style to JavaAdict).

APPI, began late on 6/3/99. Ran up two days, now $0.50/share, somewhat below the entry price:
tscn.com

PHPC, began late on 6/10/99. Ran up two days to well above a dime, now sells for a nickle:
tscn.com

CENV, began early on 6/14/99. Ran up failed, stock never got higher than a bit over 90 cents. Now sells at $0.593:
tscn.com

Menion's personal profile (for SI members only) gives you the original links suggesting these investments:
