Telenor Licenses Spyglass Technology for Faster Mobile Internet Information Services
NAPERVILLE, Ill., June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Spyglass (Nasdaq: SPYG - news) today announced an agreement to license Spyglass Prism Internet technologies to Telenor Mobil, Norway's leading mobile communications company, to allow customers using cellular phones, laptops and PDAs to access the Web at dramatically increased speed. Spyglass Prism works to condition Internet data and optimize it to the display capabilities of mobile devices to minimize the amount of data being transmitted. The technology addresses the slow download speeds and resultant call cost problems otherwise experienced by mobile users accessing the Internet. As less data is being transmitted across the network, Spyglass Prism also allows more users to be supported by the network without increasing bandwidth.

Spyglass Prism allows Telenor to offer its customers faster Internet access without the need for devices to use any additional software. The technology does not require Internet publishers to use customized authoring languages and therefore also allows mobile users access to a vast amount of existing content produced by developers.
Telenor is recognized as one of Europe's most innovative and forward-thinking operators, and is committed to offering its subscribers the most advanced services. Telenor estimates that up to 35 percent of its subscribers will use Internet access capabilities in the short term, with many more added as new information services such as traffic/weather reports and transport timetables are made available.

Spyglass is a member of the WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) Forum working toward a standards-based approach for fast and reliable Internet content delivery to wireless terminals. Spyglass recently announced the availability of HTML to WML conversion within Prism. This feature enables mobile phones and terminals equipped with WAP browsers to access the broad body of existing Internet content without requiring content providers to parallel version of their content in WML format.
