In my studies, I have not seen where Deming suggested a "take no prisoners" approach to business. I am not even sure what it means in running a business from the point of view of improving business processes. From the point of view of business processes where competitors are both suppliers and customers, it makes sense to have good relations. From an investor point of view it is good for the industry that the competitors work together. I suppose it is the government that has an adversary view of competition, but that view is a very destructive one.

I appreciate your bringing out the true nature of competition as containing a heavy dose of collaboration and agreement in stark contrast with the game of sports, where teams win by beating the other team.

Even in sales, it is not in the interest of the companies or industry to engage in negative competition. In the end everyone loses, especially us investors (witness 5fer's damage to the industry from his game playing).
