Ronald,

Yes, I think the INTS earnings report coupled with the Sun/INTS announcement has had a negative effect on WIND, for the following reasons.

1. WIND was probably tarred with the same brush as INTS since they are both in the same sector.
2. Some people may think that the Sun/INTS announcement may be bad news for WIND.

However you have to look at the timing. The earnings estimate for INTS was about 13 cents. However they came in with 1 cent, a pretty massive shortfall. Now you might ask yourself why did INTS not give some sort of warning !!! The reason was probably because the quarter was severely back end loaded and they did not know until a few days after the quarter was over that it was so bad.

This then left INTS with a bit of a problem. It looks like they decided to pull in the earnings release date by a few days (14th was not the original date) to coincide with the Sun announcement. This was presumably designed to soften the blow of the bad earnings. As you might imagine the press release had to be very upbeat and hype potential future design wins. I think when you read the press release you have to keep this in mind.

I believe that this is first such agreement INTS has had with Sun. On the other hand WIND has been dealing with Sun for many years, 96 at least. As has been mentioned here and at the CC's, Sun's Java has had more design wins with VxWorks than with all the competing OSs put together. This includes Sun's own Chorus-based JavaOS. If VxWorks can fend off Chorus (Sun's own OS) then it can fend off any other RTOS. WIND as far as I can see is years ahead in the Sun embedded Java space.
