Z,
<<Yeah, one humungous, M-----, F-------, four platter hard drive per household, in every household around the world that owns a TV or a computer and no one will hear me bitching and moaning.>>

You surprise me. Can't have it both ways. A software/home network solution would seem to eliminate this:
<< As for the video recorders, this is a very exciting market both because the numbers have the potential to become very substantial as well as because I see the drives being used in these recorders being maximum capacity drives (three platters and six suspensions). I would not expect that Hutchinson's share of drives going into VCRs would differ dramatically from their share of desktop drives since I would expect everyone to be selling drives into such a major market. -Z>> (https://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=9608134)
ZAP. 14 million PVRs never make it to market.

I don't know. It may be a combination of component devices like Tivo/Replay and home networks like IBM/CPQ/MGI Software that emerge. Maybe there is a huge market for digital VCRs amongst the non-computer households.
Just trying to brainstorm (always dangerous) here.

Paul
