Barbara: Below is the answer to your question -
"Would it not be wiser to do a run through in advance and advertise the hell out of this event? Yet again another wasted opportunity or will they do it right?"
To quote Maura Marx from earlier today: We had a dry run with Joe This morning... It's wonderful.. We're happy.."
So apparently, the thought of doing a dry run first DID cross management's minds.
Secondly, on your comment: "I find it a shame that they are "testing" new technology ( to FNTN anyway ) on THE Company spokes dude."
The technology is simply RealAudio. It's not new to the public nor to FNTN. The testing is in the connections. That's where things go wrong.. and even via today's applied technology it remains unpredictable for all of us.
As for your concerns about using the technology on "THE company spokes dude", that's why he's called a SPOKESperson.
As most everyone knows, Joe Theismann was a scholar All-American and a Hall Of Fame National Football League star - and today he is a highly respected Nationally broadcast sports commentator for ESPN and one of the most sought-after celebrities and speakers in America. Joe is also a SMART, successful and well-spoken man. He's made a lot of money for himself since leaving football. Additionally, Joe's helped raise money for scores of charities through the golf tournaments he participates in (he's also a superior golfer). From what I've heard, Joe plays the Stock Market all by his little jock self - and like everything else - plays it well (including Futures, which are way beyond me). Through my own DD on FNTN, I have discovered that Joe Theismann's relationship with the company is more than that of a talikng head on a short rental - much more. Joe is intimately involved and in-tune with FNTN on every level, including the volunteering of his time and resources well beyond the limitations of the contractual call. As Maura said to me, using Joe for public events is "not like using up our Get Out Of Jail Free cards." The relationship between Joe Theismann and FNTN is strong.. and growing stronger. As FNTN has bought into Joe Theismann, Joe Theismann has bought into FNTN. So you bet he's the guy for the event - ANY event.
And one more thing - if the RealAudio belches and crashes in the middle of Joe's broadcast.... That's Show Biz - welcome to the web! All the King's horses AND Bill Gates can't seem to guarantee a working demonstration, yet alone perfection. The Internet is still run by tekkies with PCs in their pockets (used to be pens) and time on their hands. Someday it will have to change.
As someone wise once said: "If it goes off without a GLITCH.. somebody will STILL bitch." Won't be me.. I hope it's not you, either.
