In fact I see the hard drive, and magnetic storage as a primary enabler of computing. And to call the technology an obstacle versus an enabler is just not acknowledging what has been an absolutely astounding history of technical excellence in my opinion not to mention the position the technology holds in computing in general. I also see the technology reaching a point in development where it will be a primary enabler in home appliances along the lines of what we have been talking about here. Are there other forms of storage? Sure. Do they have a place in the suite of technologies that are changing our lives? Sure. But hard disk technology deserves at least equal billing IMO and users have benefitted hugely from the industry in terms of real value and performance. But I am unabashedly prejudiced. Best, Stitch
