Not sure what someone is calling a volatility channel. I assume they use a moving average with lines set off at +/- 1.5 X ATR(10). A number of indicators seek to measure when the price has gone too far too fast and beyond the expected range or overbought or oversold. You buy when price enters the channel from below and sell on entry back into the channel after being outside the topside channel.
