The Avatar was mentioned a few months ago after 95 COMDEX. I don't feel this is any threat at all to the zip. This is from their page:

It's like the EZ 135, fragile. A product like this cannot replace the floppy. I don't know the price on these, I thought I heard $500, but I may be wrong. They might compete with jaz, but not very well.

Cost: Projected cost of the AR-2170NI family is less than $2 per MByte
So, it's a 170 MB disk, at $2 per meg that's $340 per diskette. Correct me if I'm wrong. Too expensive.

Their main emphasis, I believe is notebooks.
