RESEARCH ALERT - Healthy corporate PC demand
seen

NEW YORK, March 18 (Reuter) - Soundview Financial computer industry analysts Mark
Specker and Tom Cal said that corporate demand for personal computers would be down
slightly this year compared to last year, but would still remain healthy.

The analysts said corporate PC unit growth was expected to slip to 17.6 percent this year
from 20 percent last year. Cal said Soundview's corporate spending index fell to 46 percent
from 48 percent in 1996.

Soundview conducted a survey of about 177 of the Fortune 1000 corporations. The survey
sought to determine the degree of change in corporate spending.

"We think this translates into slightly lower demand for this year than last year," Specker said.
"In the context of this survey, the results were very similar to last year."

The analysts declined to specify which companies might be affected by the buying trends.

Corporate buyers were asked whether their spending this year wuld be sharply more, more,
the same, less, or sharply less than last year.

According to Cal, about 11 percent responded sharply more, about 47 percent said more,
about 28 percent said the same, about 10 percent said less, and about three percent said
sharply less.

Last year, 14 percent said sharply more, 47 percent said more, 26 percent said the same, 10
percent said less, and three percent said sharply less, according to Cal.

FWIW.
