"CBS.com" Chairman says they don't need Net companies. I don't know if this has already been posted, but there's a Bloomberg article talking about how Mel Karamzin (the guy whom James Cramer of TheStreet said didn't "get" the Internet at one time) has suddenly become more enthusiastic than just Marketwatch and Sportsline and may spin off their Net assets. I found it interesting that he says Net companies like AOL need him but not vice versa.

I would include the URL but it is six lines long (really):
[EXCERPT]
Karmazin squelched recent speculation that CBS will combine with America
Online Inc., the largest Internet access server.

''It's no secret that any Internet company would like to have access to our
content and our reach as a (broadcast) network,'' Karmazin said. ''Lots of
the largest Internet companies obviously would be interested, because we
have the ability to brand and brand quickly ... but we don't necessarily need
their reach.''
[END]

On a related note, CBS just gobbled up a stake in Third Age. Initially I thought the headline said "Third Voice", which scared the bejesus out of me. Third Voice is one of the most revolutionary products I've seen in my lifetime (too bad I'm not a VC who's gonna get rich investing in it) - CBS would only get in the way. But the 3rd Age/CBS combo is a great deal for both parties.
