I think JDS Uniphase could be the Intel of the optical world.

The question is how long until the combined company delivers susbsystems based on Uniphase's active components combined with JDS's passive components? Hmmm.... increased revenues per unit at higher margins, Ohhhhhh baby!

It's pretty easy to see nice steady growth for the next 3 years, the question is how much does the market expand once optical networks become practical for metropolitan transport?

Once fully optical networks become viable, could we see optical transport in the local area? If optical becomes more than just a backbone transport, the market opportunity for JDS/Uniphase could be enormous. Will JDS be a leader as these new opportunities develop?

Will JDS/Uniphase lead a standards charge the way PMCS has with the SATURN group? PMCS gives me a lot of comfort with it's 24% of spending devoted towards R&D. I hope that increasing margins at JDS/Uniphase are devoted towards R&D and not the bottom line, I hope we get to own this one for a loooooooong time.
