M2 PRESSWIRE-15 June 1999-SUN MICROSYSTEMS: NetObjects and Sun to provide next generation enterprise portal and intranet building solutions (C)1994-99 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

REDWOOD CITY and PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: SUNW) and NetObjects, Inc. (NASDAQ:NETO) today announced a joint agreement to bring the next generation of NetObjects Authoring ServerTM Suite, a leading intranet building solution for enterprises, to the SolarisTM operating environment. The new version, which will include the NetObjects TeamFusionTM Client for the Solaris operating environment, will give enterprise customers a high performance, scalable and reliable environment to quickly create compelling intranet portals and corporate e-Business sites.

As enterprises begin to create and leverage intranet information portals to facilitate relationships among employees, business partners, suppliers, and channels, a new market for robust and scaleable intranet building solutions is emerging. Already adopted by leading enterprises including The Boeing Company and NationsBank Corporation, the NetObjects Authoring Server Suite is part of NetObjects' strategy to provide end-to-end intranet relationship management solutions to enterprises worldwide.

"This announcement today shows Sun's continued commitment to work with leading vendors to provide rich products for creating leading-edge enterprise portals and corporate inranets," said Doug Kaewert, vice president of market development at Sun.

NetObjects Authoring Server Suite provides the performance needed to support concurrent, collaborating users across an enterprise-wide deployment with several underlying technologies such as a content contributor -- based on JavaTM technology, an integrated asset manager and a remote systems administrator. NetObjects Authoring Server Suite helps enterprise customers collaboratively build and manage intranets and extranets that integrate business processes and deploy robust applications. "We look forward to bringing the power of NetObjects Authoring Server Suite to global enterprise customers who have adopted Sun's Solaris operating environment as their computing platform of choice," said Morris Taradalsky, executive vice president of the enterprise division at NetObjects. "NetObjects Authoring Server Suite for the Solaris operating environment will offer enterprise customers a powerful solution to create and maintain intranet portals that help increase business efficiency and reduce costs."

Solaris Operating Environment

The Solaris 7 product line provides full binary compatibility with previous releases of Solaris software, Windows NT interoperability, ease-of-administration and mainframe-class capabilities. It gives customers an opportunity to deploy a single operating environment, where in the past they typically had to use MVS at the high-end, UNIX in the mid-range and Microsoft Windows systems at the low-end.

Availability

Enterprise users can learn more about the Sun and NetObjects relationship on the NetObjects Web site at netobjects.com and Suns Web site at sun.com or by visiting the NetObjects booth at JavaOne (Booth #908). The product will be available in the first half of 2000.
