wysiwyg ...OS's A software system (say, a CDMA stack,together with a browser etc) is split into self contained units known as tasks or processes. The function of an OS is to manage resources - typically memory, peripherals and CPU time, that these tasks require. Both CE and VxWorks are OS's. Using both to manage a system is overkill, and would cause interesting contention issues, for example what happens if CE and VxWorks required access to the serial port? The only way it could work would require two processors, one with CE, the other with VxWorks. Two processor 'phones are de riguer today (e.g. ARM+DSP) These 'phones typically have one OS, hosted by the ARM. The DSP will typically have a simple custom scheduler. Triple processor 'phones are not beyond the realms of possibillity. They would be configured much as you describe. RZTOS for the stack, CE for the MMI (i.e the windows browser etc) Most wireless ASIC vendors (CNXT, VLSI, LSI etc) can be interfaced to a third party processor. Hope this helps. w.
