Thank you all for your replies. The picture is clearer now. FWIW, I have an appointment on the 26th for Charter Communications' hookup, with 3 different rates for increasingly higher speed. The guy I talked to, naturally, said there would be no problem if I have difficulty because upgrades were occurring as we spoke. So I called SW Bell today, as their DSL service would be available in my area July 1st or after - they'd have to get back to me in 3-5 working days regarding my specific exchange, etc., etc. When I told them I had Charter coming on the 26th, so I wanted to know right away, (surprise) they said they'd get back to me tomorrow or Monday. We'll see. Thanks again to you all.
