Re: so who makes up this "artistic community"

Musicians, graphics designers, writers, literature professors etc.

I think you missing my point about timing an entry into a new
market segment that is driven by demand rather than pushing
it out there to see what happens.

You'll get no argument from me that packaging is evolutionary
and helps stimulate sales if customers perceive value in some
form or another. Some changes are driven by style and ergonomics...
others by functionality. But the PC industry has been slow to
offer consumers anything new and exciting other
than excessively rounded corners on the monitor and box.

Like I said, the stylistic design of the PC will change... no
doubt, and the GTW offering looks attractive but the premium
is a bit too steep to drive serious volumes right now. But,
do you know what styles will be the most successful and which
ones a company should avoid spending R&D dollars on? Let your
competitors push new concepts into the marketplace at their
expense, not yours.

GadZooks teen clothing is in the dangerous business of style where consumers are fickle and tastes change overnight. They can incur huge losses if they miscalculate.

Re: don't you think if dell is serious about the consumer, they need to be a bit more visible, as in advertising..

Yes I do. Dell currently advertises mostly on cable and targets
the executive class... smart move, but I haven't seen any commercials
aimed at consumers. I believe that will change this year as they
step-up their consumer initiative.... patience.
