<Any idea as to when we may see copper interconnected chips in the commercial marketplace?>

You mean from Intel, or just in general? IBM should already be producing the latest PowerPC CPUs with copper interconnect. Motorola is working on their own process, sharing their development efforts with AMD. AMD will feature copper interconnect on their K7 processors once their Dresden fab gets started with production, perhaps in Q1 2000. Their Dresden fab also uses the 0.18 micron process.

Intel has said that copper interconnect isn't necessary for the 0.18 micron process. But Intel will go to copper interconnect once the next generation process, 0.13 microns, gets underway. That will happen sometime around 2001 or 2002.
