Chevron to drill seven development wells in southern Kern River field

Chevron USA Inc. plans to drill seven more development wells in the more than 100-year-old Kern River field, which remains the second-most productive oil field in California and the fourth-most productive in the United States.
Chevron's new development wells are on Kern County Land Co. Lease 39 on Sec. 9, 29S-28E, in the south part of the Kern River field.
In February of this year, Chevron produced 21,864 barrels per day of Kern River oil from 1,367 active wells. Compared with Chevron's February 1998 production from the Kern River field of 17,019 barrels per day from 1,235 wells, the company's Kern River production in February of this year averaged a gain of 4,845 barrels of oil per day with the help of a gain of 132 active wells over the number on production a year before.
The top 10 fields in California in February 1999 were as follows in Mbbl per day compared with those in February 1998: Midway-Sunset, 160.2 (165.9); Kern River, 132.2 (130.5); South Belridge, 106.9 (115.6); Elk Hills, 53.3 (47.9); Wilmington, 48.2 (55.8); Cymric, 47.4 (42.9); Hondo, 32.8 (39.8); Lost Hills, 30.5 (33.1); Pescado, 25.9 (32.1); and Point Arguello, 25.8 (30.9).
The top five fields in the United States in February 1999 were Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, first place, 609,800 b/d; Kuparuk River, Alaska, second place, 261.800 b/d; Midway-Sunset, third place, 160,200 b/d; Kern River, fourth place, 132,200 b/d; and South Belridge, fifth place, 106,900 b/d.
