Bill, This is great news, Lucent is making it's mark in the data-networking world. I left Cisco Systems last year to join Lucent. There is no doubt that the future of networking is IP based, and eventually it will be IP over light due to the bandwidth requirements of tomorrow's Internet applications. Lucent is one of the few companies building a portfolio to handle tomorrow's Internet requirements. At the moment Cisco is outclassed in terms of Gigabit and Terabit routers, if it does not make some acquisitions soon it could quite easily fall by the wayside.
