Voice Over Internet Service Industry Expected to Grow to $1.8 Billion Annually
A public release by International Data Corporation (www.idc.com) states that the Voice over Internet service (VOIP) is expected to reach $1.8 Billion by 2003. This is close to 10 times the forecasted amount of $190 million for 1999 as predicted by IDC.
There are a number of players in the VOIP Category such as Access Power Advanced Communications ACCR , which recently announced a $10 monthly flat rate VOIP service in the U.S. and Canada. Other players include IDT IDTC , Netspeak NSPK , VocalTec Communications VOCLF .
The current VOIP players will be competing with major traditional long distance carriers such as AT&T T , MCI WorldCom WCOM , Sprint FON . For rapid growth and to gain marketshare, the VOIP players may look to partner with other Internet services such as AOL AOL , Prodigy PRGY and many others who have an established customer base in the millions.
Access Power recently launched their partnering initiative, the affiliate Co-marketing program. The program allows the affiliates to market the $10 monthly flat rate VOIP service to their entire customer base. Based on Access Power's recent press releases, they have signed up affiliates which have a cumulative base of approximately 1 million customers.
