MORE THAN 25 LEADING COMPANIES ATTEND FIRST MULTIMEDIACARD ASSOCIATION DEVELOPERS CONFERENCE

MultiMediaCard Gains Momentum As Product Developers Discuss Plans
To Use Tiny Memory Storage Card In New Consumer Electronics Products

SUNNYVALE, CA, June 17, 1999 – Representatives from more than 25 industry leading companies attended the first annual developer's conference yesterday sponsored by the MultiMediaCard Association. Companies that sent product developers and software engineers to the conference included Hasbro, Hewlett-Packard, Kenwood, Kobe Steel, Macronix, Mattel, Micron Technology, Microsoft, Motorola, NEC Electronics, Philips Mobile Computing, SanDisk and Snap-On Diagnostics.

More than 50 companies have joined the association since it was established last year to promote the new MultiMediaCard, the world's smallest removable flash storage device. The rugged, removable, solid-state card is designed to store audio, images and data in small, portable consumer electronics products. Ten new products have been introduced with slots for the MultiMediaCard including MP3 internet music players, digital video cameras and a smart phone.

Andy Prophet, the association's executive director, β€œIt was an excellent conference because it revealed just how much design activity is taking place with the MultiMediaCard in a wide range of products spread across numerous markets. There were discussions about using the card in toys, electronic books, global positioning systems, internet music players, camcorders and smart phones, to name just a few of the products. Many companies are looking for a small, industry-standard, removable, low-power storage card for their future products, and the MultiMediaCard likely will be in many of these electronic devices.”

The MultiMediaCard Association is an international organization that promotes the MultiMediaCard, an ultra-small size memory card, as an industry standard for hand-held consumer and telecommunications products. The association is headquartered at 19672 Stevens Creek Blvd., Suite 404, Cupertino, CA 95014. Material presented at the conference can be downloaded from the organization's web site at mmca.org.
