I like Washington State too. A little story a close friend, a famous black economist, told me. He grew up in rural Louisiana. When he finished high school, the family took down the Statistical Abstract of the U.S. and look over racial percentages in the states and saw that Washington was very white. They took all their savings, and gave it to him, and he went to Seattle and he enter U Wash. I laughed and said no one was that rational. But he assured my as the kids went off to school that they placed where blacks would be scarce and might have a chance. Later after his Ph.D., he taught at Wharton where he wrote two brilliant books on monetary policy, but wasn't granted tenure. I met him at Berkeley where he was visiting (trying out) when Kennedy became president. A business professor became Asst Secy of Commerce and another became a Member of BOG of the Fed. My friend was invited as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce and then appointed Assistant Secretary, and then to the BoG of the Federal Reserve System.
Another Southerner who had to leave to succeed. I don't Louisiana Southern would have met his needs.

Need to add that his parents told him to act like a man, and not to give way to white bullies on the side walk who tried to force him in the gutter. He said he was beaten from time to time but never stepped into the gutter. His name is Dr. Andrew Brimmer for you Washington DC folks.
