Kanetsu, Welcome to the HOME thread. . .we are very glad to have you here. I like your choice and reasoning for going long BRCM. . .I am looking to do same for similar reasons.

But for a risk aversion type play, I would reconsider the choice of EBAY. As long as fund managers still like it and are adding it to their portfolios. . .it means they will be obligated to continue buying it. . . therefore there will be continued buying pressure...remember it IS the leader. Perhaps a UBID or similar would be a wiser choice. . . then again, PCLN has been getting some SERIOUS buying of late.

For a good short, you need weakness. . . a stock that has for sure been removed from ports, funds and institutional buying. . . and more importantly, one that is in the same league as a BRCM, with regard to volatility. EBAY is far more volatile than BRCM. Perhaps something along the lines of AMD?, which seems to struggle despite the increase in market share. . . that way both are chip makers. Not sure. . .but worth discussion.

I really do like the play. . and it is good for those here to learn how this sort of arb related play works. Perhaps you could share your thoughts.
